Gargoyle soap carving.
Four Year 8 groups explored the culture of
the Green Man and the function of gargoyles
in medieval architecture.
Students developed their own ideas into
"grotesque" faces using clay.
A related homework was to carve a bar of
soap into a gargoyle face.
Students had to think carefully about which
parts of the soap they should remove in order
to make the facial features stand out in relief.
