Journey. Year 8. Key Stage 3. 2007. Introduction.
Journey.

Key Stage 3. Year 8. 2007.

Year 8 students created an A2 size mixed media piece based
on their journey from school to home.

They made notes in their sketchbook on:
  • What do you see?
  • What is obvious to you everyday?
  • A description of their experience. Was it hurried, relaxed,
exciting, tiring, interesting, talkative, friendly, lonely,
    always different, nerve-wracking, tense, intriguing?
  • What signs or symbols do you relate to your journey?
For example: road signs, house signs, logos, shop names.
They had to sketch these signs adding as much detail
    as they could remember.
  • What is waiting for you at home? Food, family, games,
    chores, homework, conversation?
  • What do you notice? Look on your way home for something new.
  • What might you find on your journey? Think of a few simple
items that represent your journey home. A bus ticket, a certain
tree leaf or plant, leaflets always given out, stones or
gravel, rubbings of a wall or other interesting texture etc.
The students also collected two objects relating to their journey,
two images of their house and two images related to their journey.

The students used this preparation when they developed their
work in class.
