Green Man portrait.
Year 8 students learnt about basic facial proportions.
Some groups used the myth of the Green Man
as a vehicle for the development of their
practical skills.
The Green Man is an ancient symbol used
to express man's relationship with nature.
Students worked imaginatively, combining
self-portraits with open mouths and different types
of foliage to create a Green Man composition.
They worked tonally with blended oil pastels in
contrasting colours.
In a related homework they made a gargoyle
soap carving. The classwork was extended into a
clay gargoyle and mechanical face.
