Art KS2. Year 6. Sandford Mill drawing workshop. Students at work. St. Teresa's Catholic Primary School.
Sandford Mill drawing workshop.

St. Teresa's Catholic Primary School.
KS2. Year 6. June 2005.

Year 6 students from St. Teresa's visited Sandford Mill.

Their morning was a science session. In the afternoon
Julia Stubbs led them in a drawing workshop.

Julia introduced them to the work of John Constable
("The Haywain") and John Piper (abstract constructions
and drawings 1934). Students were split into two groups.

One group worked in the barn and made drawings
of hay carts using graphite on A2 size paper.

If they had time, they then went outside and drew the
exterior of the mill building, incorporating it as a
background to their drawings.

The other group worked in the pump house. They
used viewfinders to select close-ups of mechanical
structures. They drew these in mini-sketchbooks
using fine-line pens.
