Rick Kirby Sculpture Workshop - February 2005.
William de Ferrers School.
A sculpture by Rick Kirby was commissioned for the
South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre swimming pool.
To celebrate its installation, Rick Kirby spent a day
at William de Ferrers School with its Year 12,
"AS" level Fine Art students, in February 2005.
Rick did a slide show about his work and discussed
with students its development from his use of stone
to his current work in welded steel. Rick then led a
practical sculpture workshop.
Students worked in pairs and used flat materials
(e.g. card and paper) to make a 3D construction based
upon the head or figure. They used the sculptures of
Picasso and Gabo to help with their ideas.
