Exams and how they are marked

Williams de Ferrers School has used two examining boards:

GCSE Art & Design (Fine Art)

From 2011 for GCSE Art & Design (Fine Art) the examining board is OCR.

The GCSE has two units of assessment:
  • Controlled assessment. Students have approximately 45 hours to produce their coursework portfolio.

    This could be the students' Year 10 coursework including their Year 10 exam, or their Year 11 coursework including their mock exam.

  • OCR-set task (10 hour final exam) with preparation.
From 2002 until 2010 for GCSE Art & Design (Fine Art) it was Edexcel.


AS/Advanced (A2) GCE in Art (Fine Art)

For AS/Advanced (A2) GCE in Art (Fine Art) the examining board is OCR.

AS GCE in Art (Fine Art)

The AS GCE has two units of assessment:
  • Coursework.
  • Controlled assignment (5 hour final exam).
As part of the coursework, William de Ferrers School's students do a mini Personal Investigation, to prepare them for the Personal Study they will have to do at A2 level.

A2 GCE in Art (Fine Art)

The A2 GCE has four units of assessment. The marks from the AS GCE form 50% of the assessment weighting.

The other two units are:

  • Personal Investigation, which includes a Personal Study.
  • Controlled test (15 hour final exam).
